About Rob Sabey Grant Solutions

Why this work matters to me

This work is rooted in a genuine concern for vulnerable children, but it is also grounded in strategy, communication, and a long professional background in helping people understand and support important ideas.

My Why

At the age of 14, I discovered the work of South African author Wilbur Smith, whose stories were grounded in real historical events. That sparked a deep interest in Africa—not just its history, but its people.

As I paid more attention to events unfolding across the continent, I began to see a different side of the world than the one I experienced growing up. I learned about the 1994 Rwandan genocide, where Hutu extremists murdered hundreds of thousands—nearly a million—Tutsis. I read about refugee camps and the harsh conditions families endured, especially children. I was troubled by stories of children being taken by militia groups and forced into violence.

I remember the famines in Ethiopia and the devastating toll they took, particularly on children. I watched as South Africa transitioned out of apartheid—an incredible and hopeful moment—while also recognizing that many communities continued to struggle with deep, generational poverty.

Over time, these were no longer just headlines to me. They became a quiet but persistent awareness that, in many parts of the world, children often bear the greatest cost of instability, poverty, and lack of opportunity.

More recently, I watched people I knew travel abroad to serve—working directly with communities and helping children out of deeply difficult circumstances. I admired that work, but I also began to ask a different question: What role could I play?

A friend of mine who runs orphanages in Africa challenged me to become part of the solution. That challenge stayed with me. My answer was not to go overseas, but to build something here that could support the work happening there.

That is why I created Rob Sabey Grant Solutions.

My professional background has been in product management—working with organizations to define strategy, communicate value clearly, and bring complex ideas to life in a way that others can understand and support.

I’ve spent years writing proposals, aligning stakeholders, and building systems designed to grow and scale. Over time, I realized those same skills translate directly into helping nonprofits communicate their mission effectively and connect with the right funding opportunities.

That experience allows me to approach this work differently—not just as writing, but as strategy, positioning, and long-term funding development.

Because this work is about more than writing grants. It’s about helping organizations that serve vulnerable children secure the funding they need—not just once, but consistently. It’s about building funding pipelines, identifying the right opportunities, and helping strong organizations grow in a sustainable way.

Because when funding becomes more reliable, programs become more stable. And when programs are stable, children are better supported. That is the role I’ve chosen to play.

“This work is about more than writing grants. It is about helping organizations serving vulnerable children build stronger, more sustainable funding pathways.”

Let’s talk about where your organization is now

If you serve vulnerable children and want a funding partner who thinks strategically as well as writes clearly, I’d be glad to talk.
